Seven bast
fibers are usually used and are put into a spherical tank (digester) with water
and chemical. The fibers are separated from each other by heated mixture for up
to eight hours at elevated temperature and pressure. The chemical and the
extracted binding components (pectin) removed by washing with excess water.
The clean
fibers are then fed into Hollander beater (a machine consist of large tub equipped
with a wheel revolving around a horizontal axis). The fiber are cut’s to the
desired length after this beating step, which lasts for up to 12 hours and
produces the required surfaces roughness
for proper bonding. During this step bleaching chemicals are sometimes added. It
is pressed to dryness suitable for transportation after pumping the bleached
pulp in the paper.
